@music4more

I am so excited to be living my dream of starting my own non-profit. This idea came out of my love for music and my mission to make a difference here in the US with our youth. Music was such an important part of my school experience. I played in our high school marching and concert bands. Started by playing the flute and ended up playing the sousaphone and tuba. I didn't realize at the time how lucky and blessed I was to have that opportunity as part of my school experience. My goal now is to work with musicians, community leaders, businesses and schools to help provide as many instruments and supplies to the classrooms, and with our newest project our nations veterans.

In my past career I worked in baseball (Orioles, Mets and the Bowie Baysox) and then spent a few years working doing marketing in corporate America. I am also sit on the Board of Directors for another fun organization called Mammojam and volunteer every summer as a camp councilor for the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp.

I can’t list all of my favorite artists on here as we don’t have the space, but if you check out our lineups and our featured artists you can see whom some of my favorites are. I love everything from the Beatles and  Eagles to local Baltimore artists like David Andrew Smith.

I currently work at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine and am finishing up my Masters in Non-Profit Management at UMUC.

I am so proud of what we've accomplished since we this idea began. Thank you for taking the time to check out what we do. Please join us in our mission to give the gift of music. We couldn't do this without your support!

@music4more

Before joining Music 4 More, I lived a double life.  I was like Clark Kent, except after leaving my job as a graphic designer I went to a show or on tour and didn't so much save the city from an evil attack.

Lack of super powers notwithstanding, I have been able to pull of some pretty great events over the years, like concerts, fashion shows and parties, and I and look forward to making some really great things happen with Music 4 More ("really" is far superior to "pretty", clearly).  Also, if I did have to name a super power, it would be the ability to write forwards and backwards at the same time....so, I'm sure that will come in handy at some point.

MUSIC 4 MORE NAMED A FINALIST IN
TOYOTA’S 2012 100 CARS FOR GOOD PROGRAM

 Toyota Donating 100 Cars to 100 Nonprofits in 100 Days –
Public to Choose the Winners on Facebook

Music 4 More Would Use New Toyota Vehicle to Help Transport
Instrument Donations in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD – June, 26, 2012 – Baltimore-based Music 4 More announced today that it has been selected as one of 500 nonprofit finalists in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program, a major philanthropic initiative in which the automaker is giving 100 cars to 100 charities over the course of 100 days.  Music 4 More was selected as a finalist from more than 4,000 applications nationwide.

Each day, beginning May 14, 2012, 100 Cars for Good will profile five finalists at www.100carsforgood.com.   Individual members of the public will be able to vote for which ever nonprofit they think can do the most good with a new vehicle.  The nonprofit with the most votes at the end of each day will win one of six Toyota models.  Runners-up will each receive a $1,000 cash grant from Toyota.

MUSIC 4 MORE will be up for consideration on JULY 5, 2012 from 10 AM to 11:59PM EST.

“Everyone at Music 4 More is thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for the 2012 100 Cars for Good program,” said Deidra
Stevens, President of Music 4 More. “We’re grateful for this incredible opportunity to showcase the need for instruments in school music programs and hopefully win a car to help us increase our impact in Maryland. We hope everyone will help us spread the word now and, of course, will make time to visit
www.100carsforgood.com on Thursday July 5 to vote for us.  A new vehicle would really be a game changer for our ability to deliver instruments to programs in need.

“At Toyota, we appreciate what a significant impact a new car can have for nonprofits nationwide,” noted Michael Rouse, vice president of philanthropy for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.  “Toyota has donated more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits across the U.S. over the past 20 years, and 100 Cars for Good allows us to expand that commitment to local communities in important new ways.  The 500 finalists are an extraordinary group, and we look forward to the public learning more about them.”

100 Cars for Good is the first initiative to directly engage the public to determine how Toyota’s philanthropic donations are awarded.

For more information on Music 4 More and its efforts to win one of Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good, please visit Music 4 More’s website at www.music4more.org.  You can also follow us on Facebook.com/Music4more or Twitter.com/Music4more. For complete information on 100 Cars for Good and profiles of all 500 finalists, please visit www.100carsforgood.com.

Local residents are encouraged to support Music 4 More and their quest for a new Toyota Highlander. If Music 4 More receives the most votes and is awarded the vehicle, it will be used to help transport instrument donations.

A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services.

NEW PROGRAM SEEKS TO PROVIDE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
TO LEHIGH VALLEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

YOUNIVERSITY OF MUSIC AND ARTS RESPONDS TO NEED

BETHLEHEM, PA -- A new partnership and community initiative was unveiled today that will help ensure that students throughout the Lehigh Valley who may want to play a musical instrument will have access to that instrument at their public school.

The Youniversity of Music and Arts of South Bethlehem, in partnership with the national nonprofit Music 4 More, announced it is seeking public donations of musical instruments or monetary donations to place instruments in the hands of students who want to learn to play.  The community school, located at 700 Evans St., will serve as a drop-off point for the instruments and will work with Music 4 More to evaluate, clean and repair the instruments when necessary.

Details were made public today at a press conference at the Broughal Middle School, 114 W. Morton St, Bethlehem.  Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan was on hand for the special announcement.

The new initiative will be called “SOStenuto,” which is an Italian musical term, sostenuto, derived from the Latin verb “sustinere,” meaning to uphold or sustain.

“With our new SOStenuto program, the Youniversity of Music and Arts would like to make a meaningful contribution to supporting music education in Lehigh Valley's public school system,” said Dr. Antonius Bittmann, co-founder of the school.  “There are many school children in our community who cannot afford an instrument, and there are school music programs that don't own enough instruments for their bands and orchestras.”  He added that many people may have instruments they no longer play and may want to donate.  The school is also accepting monetary donations towards the program.

Valentina Jotovic, the Youniversityʼs CEO, added that in addition to the instrument collection, the Youniversity will also offer educational services to area public schools. She said that the Youniversity faculty will offer free clinics at schools and that public school teachers will receive a 10% tuition discount for 60-minute music lessons at the Youniversity.

All donations to SOStenuto will be fully tax-deductible and funneled through Music 4 More, a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to support struggling school and community music programs throughout the U.S.  “Our primary focus is collecting and repairing used musical instruments and recycling them back into local school systems,” said Deidra Stevens, President and Founder of Music 4 More.  Stevens traveled from Music 4 Moreʼs Baltimore headquarters to be on hand for the announcement.

Mayor Callahan took the first step to launch the program by donating his used guitar to Amy Putlock, music teacher at Broughal for the schoolʼs collection.  As a group of middle school students looked on, Callahan spoke about how he became interested in music when he was in school and that it led to his playing in several bands.  He continues to perform locally, when he has the time. Putlock spoke firsthand about the schoolʼs need for additional instruments. “We simply do not have enough for all the students who want to play,” she said.  “We try and share and stagger lesson times, but it is extremely challenging and very difficult to tell a student he or she just canʼt play.” Bittman said the Youniversity of Music and Arts website has additional information about SOStenuto and individuals who wish to donate an instrument or make a financial contribution may do so there.  Lehigh Valley schools may also access a form to express their need for instruments on the site: www.youniversityofmusicandarts.com

The Youniversity, which opened in mid-2011, offers music classes and private lessons for all ages and levels of ability.  Located in Bethlehemʼs SouthSide Arts District, the school occupies a 15-classroom facility and is staffed by more than 15 music  professionals.  The Youniversity of Music and Arts is owned jointly by Valentina Jotovic, C.E.O., and her husband, Dr. Antonius Bittmann, an Associate Dean and Professor of Music at Rutgers University.
